i have a 66 c10 on a blazer frame with a 350 and 4x4. what 5 or 6 speed manual transmissions will hold up to the 350 and the 4x4? im looking for a trans with 1 or 2 overdrives to help with gas. im also considering a newer desiel motor but that will be way on down the road

I think that would really depend on the HP and Tq but if you're looking at something bone stock, I would think that the T5 or 6 would handle it and then some. Clay

well the 350 is a 4 olt main bored 60 over, im not sure bout the pistons or cam but its got some torque. would a stock t5 out of another vehicle hold up or would i need to have it rebuilt with stroger gears?

Well, I cannot speak much about trans from others and I hate to say in on this board but I'm a fan of the Mustangs and having said that, I have a bone stock 6 speed in my mustang and I'm planting 460+ HP and 500 #'s of tq and the only issue I have with it all is that I need a clutch with a bit more clamping power. Having said that, I'd expect that a 5 or 6 would work just fine from the GM side of the house. The weak points I would think would be the rear end or clutch over the tranny. This is IMHO only.
Cheers, Clay

is that a aftermarket t56 or did that come in the newer mustangs? i dont belive the t5 or known to handle too much power unless built up to it but im not sure. what year is ur mustang? ive also been thinking bout puting a t5 in my 71 maverick.

the nv 4500 would be a good one for you. They shift nice and there is a pile of upgraded parts available, plus they were used by chev from the late 80's through the 90's so you can get the bellhousings with different clutch mechanisms to suit your needs. I have one bell housing that had a hydraulic cylinder mounted to the left side, and my release fork fit perfectly on the installed ball stud for a factory fit and appearance.
