66 long fleet, 3 speed on the floor. 40 MPH 2000RPM 50 MPH 2500 RPM 60 MPH 3000 RPM. So its singing at 60 MPH, what rear end gearing will get me to a comfortable 70 MPH ? I am guessing I have 4:11 now.

There are a number of gear ratio calculators available on a Google search. Just use the terms "rear axle gear ratio calculator". Here's one example. www.csgnetwork.com/gearratcalc.htmlAssuming 28" tall tires and a desired rpm of 2500 at 70 mph the rear axle would need to switch to something like 3.08. This might make the truck a dog around town, or hard on the clutch if pulling low speed heavy loads. Another alternative would be replacing the transmission with something like a T5. With a .70 overdrive (there's more than one ratio available) in 5th, the 4.11 rear axle would effectively become something closer to 2.90.

The T5 is where it's at!!! I run 2200ish rpm at 75 and it's super comfortable in first gear. My gearbox is from a V8 Camaro/Trans am and I run an S10 tailhousing. I did it my self and probably have 300$ in it plus getting the driveshaft shortened and having the T5 yoke installed, and like a 40$ camaro clutch disc. Go here to read how I did it. www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=280529Moderator, I hope the HAMB link is ok. Zor
