Hi all, Great forum! I'm new to the site and love it. I bought a '64 C10 last summer after having a '62 in high school. My son asked "Is this your mid-life crisis?" Yep son, sure is..... I look forward to visiting with everyone. My first question is that this '64 is all original and in pretty good shape except for some rust in the usual areas. It would be a real nice project to take back to its original state state but having that SBC with a manual tranny sure sounds like fun again. If you were just starting out, what would you do? Best.

Welcome from Washington state. I'm one of those guys that "appreciates" restored vehicles, but personally I generally find them boring. To decide whether to go stock or street rod, I ask myself what I would have done if I could have bought the vehicle brand new. A passenger car from the 1940's for example I may want to keep original, especially if it survived all these years in original condition. But as for these trucks, if I could have bought one new - the first thing I would have done is bought custom wheels, an aftermarket steering wheel, hop up parts for the engine, etc. If your truck is so near perfect it can be returned to show room condition easily, perhaps that's a good option. The downside is anything that perfect is no longer practical to use regularly. Here's a link to an example of something I would never modify: www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=629519#Post629519I built mine as a hot rod. It has a 350 with a Super T10 4 speed and 4.09 gears. It's just too much fun blasting around with a manual transmission to want it to be stock or original, and I'm old with a bad back and knees. I'd agree with the mid-life crisis diagnosis, it would apply to me except I've had mine for almost 20 years. It's cheaper than a girlfriend (although maybe not by much)! If your son has an interest in working on it, that's always a great bonding opportunity. I'd suggest build it in whatever format is going to bring you the most happiness, rather than what's popular or most valuable. Here’s a link to mine, indicating what I would have done to it back when I was in high school, had the money been available: www.classictrucks.com/features/1002clt_1960_gmc_pickup_truck/index.html

Hello,
I have a 64 C10 as well. Mine was running when I got it, but I'm making a mean little daily driver, so my vote is for the sbc...etc.
Would love to see some pics.

Thanks guys! Great thoughts and I appreciate it. I'm headed the sbc manual tranny route. Haven't figured out how to add pics yet but will try again shortly. I'm loving the site and posts.
