switch to a th350/400 or even a 700r4 from my 4sp

can anyone tell me what all is involved in switching to a auto from my 4sp on the floor, cross members? shifters? driveline? what did you do/use to get er done

I used an 85 chevy for a donor. removed the stick and clutch pedal from my 60. installed th400 and 205 transfer case, it was already setup for passenger side drive. just have to modify the cross member and have a new driveline and front drive shaft built. cost about $350

Well, it depend what kind of auto shifter you want to use. Im guessing you want to use a floor model since you already have the hole in the floor for it. I swapped a 3spd to a powerglide. As far as cross member you have to move the trans coss member I believe back a few inches. Then that will mess up your drive shift so you can get that cut for like $50bucks probably. I dont know in what direction your going with your truck but, if I went as far as to put a 350/400/700R4 in it I would go ahead and get something like a nice Lokar shifter for it.
If you want a column shift, you need to go find a new steering column with it built into it. Probably like dpeers said you could find a truck that came with a 350 or whatever trans and get the column and linkages off it.

move engine stands forward 1 set of holes (about 3 inches) this helps reach back of engine and lets you install 700r4 trans with only adding a lock up converter and a good trans mounted shifter--drive shaft and trans mount bolt right up---mine did in short 66

forgot to mention much lower 1st gear and overdrive in high---i run 460 hp small block with 4.10 gear and drive it anywhere

On this topic I have a 64 that I'm installing a th400 and 454 combo. I'm In need of a new tranny crossmember and set of engine mounts. Can't seem to get the conversions for these anywhere!? Can I get any help here? Thanks a lot!!!!!!
