Hey guys, anyone know what the yellow wire is supposed to be fore that runs from the firewall and straight along with the coil wire,,,, my is just hanging there, I just swapped in a HEI set up and had the harness unwrapped and it looks like the wire is stock? I have a another pair of wires that runs up next to that wire and the coil wire that goes to the temp sending unit so its not that, also the oil pressure wire is where its supposed to be??

With an HEI you need a direct 12 volts to the distributor with a minimum 12 gauge wire, a good place is a switched terminal on the fuse block!..

Ya I replaced the white wire that restricts the electricity with a 12 gauge wire at the plug on the firewall, the white one powered my old coil so now the hei has plenty of power but the yellow wire wasnt hooked up to anything it was run beside the coil wire but continues alittle farther past the coil, looks like it went up to the front for something??

There are some pretty clear wire diagrams on this site: www.60-66chevytrucks.info/. Select the year on the left and then click on the wiring diagram links. You might be able to determine where the yellow wire comes from and use the diagram to see where it is supposed to lead to. I included an attachement of a 66 V8 wire diagram. The diagrams are color coded using letters such as "Y" for yellow. ;D Attachments:
