Hi All, I currenty was able to obtain my first vehicle which is a 1964 chevy c10. It has an inline 6 which I want to replace with a V8. I have a 350 for it now, but don't really know where to start. The truck is a 3 speed on the column of which I would like to leave for now. I have read that the 350 should bolt right up and that I can use my same flywheel, but I am not sure. Also, I have heard that I will need to replace the motor mounts, but I have yet to read what exact motor mounts I need to buy. I have searched online, but can't seem to find everything I need. Anyhow, I really hope that someone here can help me. I hope to post pics soon! Goose

I believe Mounts (towers need to be relocated, or possibly replaced also)(I have changed in a 79 v8 in where a 327 sat and not the 6 to v8 swap) from a v8 truck 63- 72 should work, with 63- 72 exhaust manifolds. If your 350 has newer manifolds they hit the old mounts. An alternate way, to keep the newer manifolds, is to get the newer towers and mounts (73- 8*) and drill new holes. The fly wheels all bolt up 230, 250, 292, small block (except 400), big block (except 454) thru 1985. And for others swapping things around, there are different diameters make sure your flywheel matches the starter. I do not know on the 235 (used in 60- 62? pick ups)(it has a different bell housing at least).
hope this helps. del

The following link explains everything about motor mount towers/perches for these trucks: www.persh.org/pickup/perches.htmSince these trucks came with V8s originally the swap is relatively simple. Good luck, M.

From what I can tell, my motor mounts should work. (At least the towers) As for the bracket that mounts to the motor I am not sure. Thanks for the web page. This is very informative, and it will also help me with my powersteering install.

I think the towers have to be swapped. The swap was done to my truck before I owned it and worked on it. I was to young to remember if they were swapped but, when I went to sandblast my frame they were bolted and not riveted. Also, I can't imagine that the towers would work going from an Inline style engine to a V8. The mounts are probably the same. you can get them at places like AutoZone or whatever.
You probably need to look into swapping your rear end gear. The 6 cylinder and V8 have different rear end gearing. I think the 6 cylinder is geared higher then the V8 but, I might have that backwards.

My rear end is not the best choice for gas mileage. I am doing some crazy RPM's when going 50 on the highway. :o As for the motor mount perches, mine are bolted in as well. I just hope that the "motor side" will mate up. For some reason I don't think they are going to work. I beleive my 350 has a wider spread on the three bolt holes. Lets cross our fingers!!!

I swapped an in-line 6 for a 283 and it bolted right up to tranny w/o any difficulty. Mine was a 66. I was never sure if the clutch was the best one for that combination. But, I never had any reall problems with the truck pulling good.
