I have a 64 c10 and looking to use a different year c10 to upgrade my power steering. What years match up exactly with the manual steering box from my 64?

Ive been under the assumption that the 71-87 steering boxes will work. You might have to drill a hole or two but, thats what I was thinking. I might be wrong though.

Thanks for the info, but I need to be 100% sure. I hate spending time and money and it doesn't work but thanks for the reply!

I got kit from Classic Ind, that allowed me to mount just about any gear box from 71-87 Chevy C10 I think it was around 90 bucks. I found it on ebay for cheeper than buying it from them

1st you need to get a power steering adaptor plate , REZ or CPP sells them, this will let you bolt up the steering box to your frame, provide the neccecery "dimple" needed, and also reinforce your frame , this is very important. Now as for the box ,as Scooter mentioned any 71-87 Chevy 1/2 ton will work, but make sure you also get the pitman arm and same year pump and pressure hose, as they do not interchange. The later years used an O-ring seal, and the early did not. Moybrian is right you can get a bracket kit on ebay for cheep, but watch the frt charges.also keep in mind that you will need to cut your old steering shaft down and attach it to the new gear, with a perferably new coupler, some kits come with these parts. This is an easy conversion, and it takes about 8 hours, more or less. One last thing for us 60-62 owners our frames are boxed so make sure you get the appropiate kit ( as of right now only CPP makes it), as the support brackets are diffrent. hope this helps

Hello, I personally did a power steering box on my 1964 c10 and went to the junk yards, found alot of trucks in different states of dismantle, was looking for something between 1970 and 1980 and found a 1981 GMC with no engine, tie rods gone, just the power steering box still attached to the power steering pump! Well, I thought it was a slam dunk because I had both box and pump and figured it would bolt to my older v8 small block engine. Well the "O-ring" style box was fine but the pump was shot so I had a good box but needed a pump..... Seeing I now had the identity of the steering box I was going to use, I went with REZ engineering's bracket, it bolts to the original holes on the frame and then serves as a template with the spare hole to drill for the 4th hole, worked like a charm. I was 1/2 way thru making a template (ex shipyard welder here) then got turned onto REZ. (second part of job) Now, I went to order a new pump and seeing I did not have the newer style small block heads, I had to bolt a brand new "flared" fitting pump to my block, as they do with older pumps but now had a problem... The problem was a older "flared fitting" pump with a newer "O-ring" box. I had ordered the preformed hose from REZ for a flared to flared and still had some "O-ring" hoses from the junkyard. I was getting flustered by the adaptation process and just sleeved and brazed the "O-ring" end to the new "flared" hose that I had. If you do this, you need to wrap cold water drenched rags by the rubber side to stop heat flow and quench with water spray as soon as you braze. I called up CPP later and they shipped a set of adapters, in a shrink wrap, labeled: "PURE Choice - Motorsports LLC" part-number 11715 and it's description read on the package: 11715 - LATE GM BOX TO EARLY GM HOSE STYLE - MALE_16mm & 18mm o-ring TO FEMALE_INVERTED Later on I then spotted this article from CPP www.classicperform.com/tech_articles/turn-turn-turn/turn-turn-turn.htm and also a PDF with some thread sizing for adapters. www.classicperform.com/Instructions/PDF/CPPbrakeguide.pdfHere are some progress shots of the job wiliweld.com/chevy/
