My '65 is in desperate need of a new bench seat. I'm not concerned about the upholstery as much as I am the fact that when I sit behind the wheel, the driver side of the seat is so worn down that I find my knees nearly up by my shoulders. It's not pretty. It probably doesn't help matters that I'm 6'4".
So here's the deal: I'm not looking for a brand new shiny seat for a pretty truck, I'm looking for a functional seat for a utilitarian truck. Unfortunately, around here there are no pick-a-part salvage yards I can peruse through. The junk yards around here demand that you know exactly what you want when you walk in. --So, outside of finding another '65 chevy truck seat, is anybody aware of any other vehicle makes/models with bench seat dimensions comparable to my original? It'd vastly improve my chances of finding something.

Most chevy truck seats 60 and up will fit with minor bracket changes. The 88 and up seats will work fine with a mount modification, they are concaved in the back and tall and big guys fit good in them. I look for commercial versions of these trucks in salvage yards like the C-50s for good seat frames.

Yes, 88-up seats are newer tech... they are confortable, yet low profile (thin) both in height and seatback thickness. I have a 77 bench seat in mine and it fits perfectly, although I made adapter brackets to fit the stock rails to the stock threaded floor holes. I set it lower than the stock 62 seat and being six feet, I fit as perfectly as I possibly can in this cab.

That's definitely an idea. I need to check out the condition of the springs and frame first though. I haven't looked, but I can tell by the way it feels that it's probably more than just a foam problem. --Probably won't be able to act on this until spring break in a couple weeks-- When I do, if it looks like it'll be worth my time to just fix the current seat, then I'll probably take that route.

well if you saw the pics of mine then you know it most likely can be redone! LOL. but even if its a few broken springs it can be redone. You can just get some springs from a junkyard seat. thats what a interior shop will do anyway.
Otherwise that upholstery kit for our seats is always on sale somewhere!

I didn't realize until just now that that link was to YOUR particular truck. ...I looked through the rest of your blog, and holy cow, man, that's a beautiful ride you've got! That color scheme is really what I've had in mind for my truck too. Very nice.

salazar44,
Headed over to your link. Now have it in my favorites! SWEET website. The pictures you took during everything will definately help everybody.
I'm heading the '88 and up choice for seating. Like the more modern look instead of the original bench.
I'll be heading over to the "desert" again in NOV and returning in JUN '09. Should have a healthy bank account to start my project.
