I was driving my 1964 Chevrolet tonight and the headlights went out. I had turn signals, dash lights, taillights, etc... The fuses appear to be good. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a ground wire or the harness popped loose. I would check the harness and then all the ground points first from the grill and headlight harness. Do you still have the old wiring in there? Each lamp connection on the harness will be grounded. It gets rusty there and that could be a source. Use a multimeter and check the harness connections out with the lamp switch in the headlight on position and make sure you are getting power up to the harness. Couple of ideas there.

Back in business... Rusty contacts at the dimmer switch. Thanks for the help.

I discovered the same problem with no headlights due to a faulty dimmer switch. I have been scratching my head over this and then I called a friend and we read the wiring circuits together and he suggested checking the dimmer switch. Rusty and cranky, it was, as it fell apart into 3 pieces when I moved the floor mat to gain access to it. OK, so another part to replace to see if it was the problem. I hope so. At least it looks like it was the issue.

YES!!! The dimmer switch was the problem! A new one was installed and voila, I have headlights. The biggest problem now facing the truck is the floor pan. One mounting hole is 1/4" and the other is 5/8." The welded nut spun and the pan is so weak that the welded nut and screw ripped out. Oh, well, more for me to see the roadway with. AnlaufJohn
