My gas gauge for my 1964 Chevrolet C10 is not working. Where should I begin to trouble shoot?

I would check the unit in the tank, see if it hung up or something like that, then the wiring.

Yeah, like Scooter said, it's probably either the fuel sending unit in the tank or faulty wiring.

Check the ground first.

Check the ground wire above the sender where it screws into the sheetmetal. The factory senders on these truck are 0-30 ohms ranging from "E" to "F". If the needle pegs "F" when the key is on, it is a grounding issue...if the needle pegs "E" when the key is on, it is a power issue. The fuel gauge wiring harness runs from the bottom of the fuse block, under the rubber floor mat, along the driver side door sill and up the driver side "B" pillar, across the top of the fuel tank. Trace the brown wire along this path to determine if there is a breach in the wire.
Please let us know what you find.
