I am trying to remove the dash from my 1965 Chevy truck. I have removed the 6 half inch head screws, three from each end, the dash which secures it to the side body. It appears that the dash should pull straight out and the front lip by the windshield should disengage. I am having trouble with the lip at the windshield doing anything, but the truck was a farm truck for many years and probably rusted somewhat around the windshield connection. I am currently using some WD40 to help at disconnecting the lip portion, if in fact that's the disconnect point. Anyone that has ever removed one, I can sure use some advice.s

Its spot welded to the fire wall all the way across the top and a bunch of places around the sides and you have to drill all of them out to get the dash out.

Scooter3.....thanks for the advice and I'll attack it that way. I didn't notice the spot welds, but I'll take a closer look and if found, I'll drill them like you say. Appreciate your help.

Scooter3....I can't find the spot welds, do I have to pop the windshield out? That looks like how I'm going to get at the welds. Thanks kc8bmy

Scooter 3 was right! The dash is all welded in and includes the windshield mount lip. I removed the windshield which was a lot of fun....and I think what I'm gonna do, since I have the cab all stripped out, seat, steering wheel, all instrumentation etc, I'm just gonna leave the windshield out and paint the dash that way it will be easier to sand and spray. I'm gonna go on and spray the interior anyway so I'll just make it one big job. I got a little too anxious to get the windshield out and caused a small crack! I've been down that road before with small cracks and they just keep getting bigger, so I'll probably have to end up buying a new windshield. I'm gonna have the windshield put in by a company close by that will do it for $75 guaranteed and they will come to your house. Thanks to everyone for your advice and ideas. I've pretty much been working on this 65 from front to back. If there is any advice that I can give, I'll keep watch on questions that are posted. Thanks again.

You should not have to take the dash out to do what you are planning, unless you just really want to take the dash out. Ive done a lot of sheet metal work to my cab and I dont plan on ever taking the dash out.

I didn't remove my dash either. All the glass was out of the cab when the bodywork was done. We're going to paint the dash the same color as the exterior. I'm creating a custom dash insert that will cover from side to side with instruments and controls near the driver.
