I have done this conversion several times. There are complete kits available, including the frame mounting brackets, power steering pump, power steering gear box, pump mounting brackets, hoses, rag joint and mounting hardware. I have purchased them online or you can collect the parts from a scrap yard or donor truck to do the conversion. Post your question and you will get lots of good information. You can also refer to this link: www.persh.org/pickup/steering.htmGood luck with your project and keep us posted of your progress.

The converison on my 60 took 2 days !! Well realy only 1/2 a day ( including a few cold ones) I had everything or so I thought .I wound up needing a new pitman arm and had to wait a day to get it. ( I started working on it Saturday and had to wait till Monday for the pitman arm ) It realy is an easy job, make sure to use the frame mounting kit .

I'm sorry I dont understand : what will be in the way ? For the pump you need to get the correct mounting brackets, or fab some up

Depending on what your mounts look like they may be in the way of conventional pump brackets. Many of the pumps bolt to the holes that were previously used for the early motor mounts. This was also a problem with the old Hurst mounts, and the similar early Corvettes. Very early power steering was frequently driven off the back of the generator so the engine mounts weren't an issue. I would suggest looking at something like Alan Grove brackets. The website is www.alangrovecomponents.com. His mounts aren't fancy, just functional. I've had them on my setup for about 10 years and they work great. Their part number 404L is designed for 55-59 trucks. Not sure if this will fit your installation but it may provide ideas if you have to fab your own. Good luck.

Speaking of manual steering, I'll never forget the time I was driving behind my son,who was driving his '64 chevy truck, and he was talking on the phone with his left hand and making a left turn using only his right hand. I mildly chastised him for it when we got home, but I was impressed by his strength. It helps that he is 6'4'' tall and weighs 290 lbs. LOL That was a mental image I'll always remember...
