I am a new member and have a question. I plan on dropping a 5.7L LS6 in my truck. what modern 5 or 6 speed manual would bolt up and still leave room for the shifter inside the cab?

Hey, I dropped a message for idea about engine and transmission earlier and have had no, that's zero replies. I think this message board is dead! I'd like to put a modern 5 speed Chevy tranny in my '65 c-30 but don't know about the parking brake set up. Mine came with a drum brake on the old 4 speed granny tranny, but no rear end brake mechanism. I haven't looked to see if something can be set up to work for a parking brake on the rear end or not. I've burned up two modern Chevy automatic tranny's hauling heavy-medium loads ('97 and 2000 c1500 and c2500 respectively) so will never uses a GM auto in a truck again. Currently I haul with a 2002 Dodge 2500 Cummings and would love to put that in my '65 Chevy 1 ton. My advice would be to go to StoveBolt.com where people answer posts.

If the only problem you have with fitment for the t56 is getting the shifter inside the cab, just cut out the hole in the floor a little bigger to make room for it. And, it sounds like you'll probably have to get a custom made driveshaft.

yeah, i would love to use the T56, but i found out it is too long. i spoke to a really knowledgeable engine builder and he recommended an aftermarket ford tranny 5spd manual that is the right length. thanks for the reply guys
