I'm new here guys. I have a1965 K30 (Chevy) 2 wd dually I'm rebuilding frame up. My choice for tranny is a newer Chevy 5 speed manual for the OD gearing. But, I want to run hydraulics off a pto, I guess I could use an electric motor to do that. The other issue is that the truck came with the SM420 transmission with tranny mounted drum parking brake. The frame is at the sandblasters and I'd like to do these modifications with body parts off. My question is, what transmission would allow the easiest modification to include PTO and a parking brake?

Ok, I'll reply to my own msg with what I've found. I've seen other similar query's on this board. NV 4500 is a nice tough 5 speed chevy tran with pto ports on both sides. One could run a transfer case and a pto. The muncie pto that came on the 1965 granny 4 speed will bolt right up. The bolt pattern has been standardized for a long time. A Dana 70 or Chevy 14 bolt free floater dually will bolt right up to replace the Eaton rearend. Because Eaton is no longer made or supported and I don't want to daily drive 5:12 with a gas guzzling LS1. Some versions of the 14 bolt (late model and probably more expensive) Chevy have disk rear with a small drum parking brake. The other rear ends have drum with a parking brake set up. One would need to mount a foot actuator in the cab, but thats been done (see stovebolt.com). Or one could adapt disk brakes to the rear and use disk parking break, either Cadillac or after market. I'll put a steel flat bed that has 18" removable sides and tail gate. Under the bed goes a pair of lift cylinders. I'll tow a chipper for farm clean up after winter storms like last year, or haul gravel for drive, what ever.
