For my unfinished '65 Chevrolet "resto-mod", I have converted the front to disc brakes and kept the 6-lug setup. I just ran across a 5-lug cross-drilled & slotted rotor kit, and now have it in the shop. The 5-lug will allow me a better selection of wheels, (I'm leaning toward the Cragar SS type that I used on a race car 35 years ago). What axles can I get that will give me the 5-lug setup for the rear-end? Will my drums work? The rear-end is the stock unit that came in the truck with a 4.10 posi unit.
Thanks,
Harry

Hey Harry,
The trouble is width. You need to use the 60's axles and if you can find a 5 lug (good luck) that would be best. I just found a ford 9" which is narrow enough (60") and welded the 6 lug bolt holes and re drilled it with 5. I drilled the drums too. A bit of work but it works great. Easy way, find a 60-66 5 lug,, but good luck

I just got a new Early Classic Enterprises catalog today in the mail. They offer 5 lug conversion axles for 60-66 $279 a pair I think. Im in the same boat as you are swapping to 5 lug for more wheel choices.

Scooter3,
Thanks for the heads-up on the Early Classic axles. That looks like it will do the trick.

You could weld and drill them for about $15 if you can fabricate a little.
Also we choose the 9" rear so we could do away with the trailing arms and use leafs.

I have thought about the welding and drilling of the axles, but I dont think there will be enough material for it to be safe.
Ive heard of people putting the leaf springs on and doing away with the trailing arms. I figure if trailing arms are good enough for nascar, they are probably good enough for my truck, and I think they are just as easy to lower as a leaf spring setup. Oh well to each his own.

Yea its done all the time. The holes are welded shut and new holes are drilled. Ends up as good as new. Trailing arms are fine I'm just an old school hot rodder and to me they have to have leafs with sway bars
