I am considering the disc brake swap in my 62...found a doner 70, and everything appears that it will work, however, i measured the rear axle(5 bolt) and it's acoulpe inches wider than older 6 lug rears. does this mean the front end is also wider? I'd rather use the narrower 6 bolt out of a later 60s, and i read you can use 6 lug rotors from an 88, they will go right on the spindles. Just not sure about handling issues . any input would be appreciated

No, But I cant figure why the rear end is a 5 lug unless your donor disc brake stuff is coming out of a 70 model car. In that case GM made 2 different width 12 bolt rear ends, there was a wide one and a narrow one. That could be where your different rear end measurements are coming from.

sorry ...forgot to mention it's a 70 c10 pickup! it's 5 lug. this guy i know has a bunch of old chevy trucks in his yard...an eyesore to some people but a goldmine to me...i just noticed the wider axle measurement between the 5 and 6 lug chevy 12 bolt rears. i'll be going back with a measuring tape again before i lay down any money

Were doing another 62 but we put them on 67-72 frames with PS DISC Sway Bars, GMC frames with leaf springs. The front end width is fine but the rears on 67-72 are 1" wider and anyone who has done it an inch makes all the difference when lowering. We use 9" ford rears 60" wide on all our conversions. Usually weld and drill out the 5 lug bolt pattern.
Look for a 60" 5 lug rear and you will be fine.
