As long as I am stuck with waiting for engine work I am currently painting the interior. How do I remove the dashboard? I will buy a shop book soon, but I want to know this before the book comes to my door. ;D

My understanding is that the dash is permanently mounted to the cab.

It is and it isnt permanent. You can take it out but its a pain and it will be as big of a pain or worse to get back in. If you look under it way up at the top, you can see where the thing is spot welded in. I think there are some bolts as well, dont really know why cause its spot welded in. If you were painting the interior, you could make an attempt to paint it with the windsheild in, my advice is to take the windsheild out and you can get to your dash that way.

The upper lip of the cowl and the forward lip of the dashboard are spot welded together to form the lower mount for the windshield rubber.

Just paint the interior with the dash in. I just did mine on monday. I took out the back glass and windshield (they both needed new gaskets anyway). It is a real pain in the ass to do but its not impossible. In hinsight I would remove the steering wheel, shifter (4sp on the floor) and the seat as well. With those in place some places are difficult to get to but like i said not impossible. If you have a detail gun it may be easier to get into some of those hard to reach places.

I painted the dash today with just removing the seat since I am replacing it anyway. My buddy and I taped up some newspaper on the windshild and protected the doors and so fasr so good, but I need to learn how to paint better due to the dripping I am causing.
