I further cleaned off my casting numbers, and got a new reading, 3921968. I looked it up and i have a 250 which means i have a 4.1, which means i dont have a 292, which means im now suicidal and severelly depressed, but that aside, im actually proud to say that i get better "get up and go" than my dads truck, and its a 6.0. Is it the manual tranny that makes it fly? And also, do you think i have enough torque to haul a trailer with a backhoe on it?

There was an easier way to tell a 292 from a 230 or 250. The side covers on a 292 are approx 6 inches tall and the 230/250 side covers are about 4 inches tall. Also the motor mounts on a 292 are staggered.
Unless you have a 1-Ton truck or larger with a least a granny gear 4-Speed, I would not be towing a backhoe and trailer. Even then I would make sure the GCVW would cover it. It's not the engine I'd be worried about, but the size and capacity of the truck. A 250 is a good engine, altho I wouldn't over work it.
Also, the manual trans in a truck does make a difference. Over a stock automatic anyway.

I would worry about the clutch burning up, or better yet stopping it.. I would find myself a Ford to tear up for that job,lol
