Hey all, after a few years of dreaming of owning one of these projects, I've just purchased a '64 Custom SWB, 283ci, SM420 on good 'ol Ebay. I'll be flying out to Reno to give away my cash and drive it 1700 miles home...I hope. He says it should make it-no problem. I'll keep you all posted, wish me luck!

OK, I made it to Reno-finally. Met the seller at about 9pm and he took me to the truck, Looked good when i walked up to it. No rust anywhere! Looked her over and to my dismay found leaf springs on the rear! WTF?! I realized this beast must be quite a hybrid of C10 longbed cab, GMC frame and who knows what else. Also interesting was the instrument panel. When the turn signal switch was pushed down for left, a "tandem axle" idiot light comes on. When lifted for right signal an "overspeed" idiot light comes on. Again, WTF? Is the panel from a big truck? Anyhoo, I drove it around and it seemed to work well other than no turn signals on front or left rear. What have I gotten into? The long trek back to Iowa begins tomorrow. Brian

Well, we got underway at noon after some dicey and frustrating bank issues. Charged across I-80 at 60-65mph with some vibration issues in the drivetrain which got worse with speed and time. We pulled over about 100 miles out and checked the u joints and diff, To find oil emitting from the front diff seal and noticed some play in the pinion bearing. We topped of the diff which was nearly dry and took off for Winnemucca but came up short because the vibration quickly returned. Topped off again we made'Winny' at 4:30pm and called it quits. We got a Uhaul truck and trailer lined up for tomorrow so this old girl is done for the rest of the trip.
