ok i purchased this 64 c10 stepside shortbed. body is good shape pretty solid except for floorpans, rockers, and passenger side fender. it was a heck of a deal at the price. i hauled her home. it had been sitting for over a year. put some good gas in carb and she fired right up and ran till gas was used up. next thing i thought well lets see if the fuel pump works. i unhooked tank side and ran hose to a jug with gas in it. ran good and started pouring out of carb. took it off and cleaned it. reinstalled ran good. smoked but was running good. took out tank behind seat and very little rust in it. but alot of bad gas and clogged pickup tube. cleaned out tank and installed new fuel sending unit. put gas in her and runs on her own. 3 speed on column does is nice and tight, has plenty of power. i changed the oil put in some lucas oil additive. dont tick anymore runs quite well. installed new plugs and wires. it has hei distrubitor.
bad part:
she smokes like a freighttrain. they not a bug anywhere near my garage. (which is a good thing) but what im getting around to is there something that goes bad after sitting that is a easy cheap fix while engine still in truck? like valve seals or sumthun to just see if it helps.
the truck runs great and clutch feels great. when i was cleaning out truck i seen receipts for clutch, oil change, plugs, wires and was dated 2007. the engine is clean and looks well mainttained. it is a 292 inline 6. it was last tagged in 09. the girl i bought it off of bought it in 2010. and she hadnt done a thing to it except let it sit. and sanded some on it.
i was just curious if the valve seals get weak and break or leak?
is it a easy fix?
and i do have some numbers off engine that was near back of block above starter. im thinking it was a newer inline 6. has 83 stamped on it and below that is some numbers etc etc.
thanks for reading this long post. but i have always been partial to these ol trucks i learned how to drive 3 on the tree in one. have had 3 of these trucks over the years and something always happened that i had to sell them. but not this one. she is staying no matter what.
i want to keep her inline 6 strong and drive it everyday.
