LMC, Brothers, American truck parts etc . etc. If youve ever bought any repopped parts you know they are junk. NOTHING fits like original. They are either made in China or Mexico. They come dented and undrilled or drilled in the wrong places. Dont be fooled by these truck parts warehouses. Sure there are some things that are ok and most people wouldnt recognize them as repopped but for the most part REALLY try to find Original. Your restoration will go much easier. Ive dismantled and built over 45 trucks and NEVER use repopped stuff after getting ripped off once!. The bumpers dent first time out, the inner fenders arent correct, the fenders dont line up etc etc. The window rubber is the only thing worth buying and even THAT doesnt fit if your trying to put in a chrome windshield strip!

Well, being new here, but extremely familiar with these trucks Im going to throw in my 2 cents. I have replaced 75% of my floor in my truck. My experience is that all of the "patch" panels for our trucks are wrong, at least for the floor and cab corners. What I got told from Harmons is that they are all made by the same people in Tiawan. Now heres the kicker, what LMC and all the repo people are calling patch panels for 60-66 or 64-66 are really, 67-72 with the sticker changed. Now, if you havent ever noticed, a 66 and 67 are different! With the floor panels, the only thing that is the same is the location of the cab mount indentaion. All of the rolled beads and what not are in a totally different place. Also for buyer beware with the rest of the panels to redo your cab with. The cab corners do not have enough roll at the bottom, the kick panels ( the place down next to where your foot goes next to the door) is not at all right, and the rocker panels are too big. How are the rockers too big?? Well they took the dimensions off a pre-existing rocker and used those dimensions for the die, therefor the repo rockers are bigger. Oh and dont follow LMC's diagram for how to put your rockers and floor boards together because its wrong.

Well this got me thinking, when I bought my 66 the guy gave a me a box with brand new fender patch panels, never did open it up so I decided to look at them and you're right they're crud they're altogether different, and I don't know what they're for because they don't fit my 72 either!. Sticker says 60-66, and says "Made in Taiwan"...

I am wondering how are the repop chrome parts like inner and outer door handles and window cranks? Are they as bad as the sheet metal? Also just in looking for parts Goodmark makes body panels are these as bad as the ones from lmc?

What Ive heard is that all of the sheet metal parts that all of the suppliers like LMC, Harmons, and others is from the same place in Taiwan.
Another beaf that I left out of my previous rant on repo parts, is the lower door skins are worth crap either. If you dont know what I mean by lower door skin, its basically the outside sheet metal of the door. The panel will not have any form to it, its basically a flat piece of sheet metal. As all of us know our doors aren't flat. Ive got plenty more stuff to fuss about on these sheet metal parts so, if you are wonderin about one of them I'll probably be able to tell you whats wrong with it.

I have a 64 and it needs passenger rocker and fender patches. They are both need a lot of help and I am not going to be able to make the panels myself. What do I do? I almost ordered a fender and a rocker before I read this post. Are the parts totally worthless or will I be able to massage them to work?
Oh yeah, and if repop won't work, where do I get a good used fender and rocker, there isn't a junkyard within 70 miles of me and I'm sort of putting myself against the clock to get this truck done.

I replaced the inner and outer fenders when I started rebuilding my '65. I found out what I needed from Goodmark, and then found a dealer close to where I live, and ordered the fenders from the dealer. I haven't finished the truck yet, but i have fitted the front end and everything seems to be OK, (although I didn't shim the outer fender). I still need to do the final fitting of the whole front end, and drill some 1/8" guide holes for re-assembly after painting.

zor: The rockers are not garbage, they just are not the same size as the orginals. Also, if you are replacing your rockers beware of the blow up pics in the LMC books. The way they show it, the inner rocker is a seperate piece when it really is a piece of the floor board. So, if you get a floor patch (which is border line worthless) it has the inner rocker made onto it. They make the inner rocker for those whose floors are not rusted out which is not too many. There is also a good chance your not going to find good fenders and rockers in southern georgia on a junk yard truck. I dont know about the fenders, I havent gotten them for mine yet. The rockers are close enough you can make them work.

I have bought a lot of stuff from LMC and I've been happy with all but a few pieces. Outer door handles, arm rests, visors, taillight lenses and trim, rubbers, chrome bumpers and grille, chrome headlight bezels, and heater controls have all been good. The front grille surround panel needed extensive bodywork to fit properly, although it was close enough that all the bolts went in properly. I'm sure that if I had replaced the fenders at the same time, it would have been a disaster. The aftermarket buckets for the headlights are also useless without modification. I'm tickled pink that replacement panels are available at "beer budget" prices, but not thrilled with the fit. I'm bettin that if US made stuff was available, it would be too pricey and probably not much better.

Well, if they would have the sense to make their die's smaller then the original, so the stamped part would be the same size as the original there wouldnt be near as much problem with the panels. They could try that crazy thing thats catching on like wildfire all over the world, its called, Thinking
