Just a shot in the dark, but I'd check the harmonic balancer. Some of them have external weights on them. ?? Just a guess

UPDATE:
When i changed the u joints I noticed some play in the output shaft on the transmision. Maybe a half inch in all directions. And the yoke looked grooved. I haven't checked fluid yet, but should all that play at the yoke cause the fluid to leak out ? The truck came with another 3 speed tranny. If someone has the pages scaned on file on how to remove the tranny and clutch that would be a big help. My truck is a 62 c10 235 motor 3 on the tree. Ok back to the vibration problems. I balanced the tires changed the u joints, motor mounts execpt that front mount. Still vibration problem but not as bad. I can live with it for now until i change the tranny all i need is the knowledge

For the vibrations, start simple. Check the torque on your wheel hub nuts. They have to be 15 ft. lbs. or they'll vibrate. Same thing happened to me on my 63 and it went away after I set them to the correct torque. If that doesnt correct it, check your ball joints.

Oh, and for the speed issue: rebuild your carb and upgrade to an electronic ignition (Pertronix makes a good one). That should help quite a bit. Both are very simple jobs. Beyond that, having your head reworked will help too.

Another shot in the dark regarding the vibration. Your drive shaft may not be balanced. I have a similar problem with my Jeep and that's something that I've been told to check.
