looking at my cross member there is a bracket that the upper control arm bolts to, it is bolted to the frame but I think its bolted to the cross member also, it appears to be the shape of a "L" so it bolts both ways, do you have to remove the upper control arm to remove the cross member or just unbolt it from the frame and slide the cross member down and out. I guess if anyone that has done this swap could tell me if they had to remove the upper control arm or not that would answer my question

You can leave it on. The studs that hold the upper A arm on don't go through the frame. Taking it off might allow better access to the bolts but other then that your in the clear with leaving it on.

A little adjustment in the year of donor trucks is needed here......One can use from 1973 to 1987 pickups as donors OR use a 1973 to 1991 suburban front end. The burbs stayed the same until 1991. I just did the swap FYI Kieth
