Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and my question has probably already been asked, but here goes. I am hoping that someone can provide me with accurate information. I own a 65 Chevy pickup, short, fleet, that my Dad purchased new in July 65. The truck has been in my family since 65 so I know the complete history of the truck. The truck has a 283 (with modifications) with a 3 speed on the column. I have obtained a TH400 automatic that I would like to install in the truck. Can anyone tell me what works best for the column/shifter and what must be done with the crossmember, especially the small crossmember that has the parking brake actuator mounted to it? Any information on how to go about this swap will be much appreciated. I would like to be able to revert the truck back to stock in the future if desired.

Classic Performance Products (CPP) Has a nice tubular transmission cross member for about 60 bucks, and some very nice columns. My cross member was cut when i got it and i plan on replacing it with theirs. You have a ton of options for columns, the 67-72 use a little different steering wheel but you could use one of those and cpp's use a 67-72 steering wheel also. I think I have seen a van column used also. I'm sure others can chime in with more advice. Good luck with the swap.
