I have 66 C10 with a 250 and occasionally the 3 on the tree will stick in gear and I have to get out pop the hood and pull the gears (R & 1st) to be equal (with 2nd and 3rd) on the column. The shifter will not move until I free up the gears and make them equal. Has anyone experienced this before and have a fix, I really want to keep the 3 on the tree.

i've never had it happen to me but it sounds like either a linkage is bent or a shaft is worn and binding. i know that alot of people get rid of the 3 on the tree so you may have luck finding the linkages cheap

I've had that happen on my truck before, and had to fix it the way you described. I had the clutch adjusted (it wasn't disengaging the transmission the way it should, causing the gears to jam a little) and the gears haven't got stuck in a long time. I think they were in a bind, when shifting, because the clutch was needing adjustment.

Had the same issue when I tried to shift too fast. Annoying. I recall this happening a lot to column shifters when I was a kid. Never knew the root cause of the problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I have found if I include 2nd gear in my down shifts the issue never happens. For example, I shift 1,2,3 no problem; and then at a light I go from 3rd to 1st and it locks up. If I go 3rd, 2nd, then first it has not locked up.
I hope this helps someone else too....

If you shift as indicated (go down through the gears the same way you went up through them you give the synchros a chance to work, the difference between gear speeds from 3rd to 1st is a lot, where if you go 3, 2, 1 you give the synchros a chance to do their job. Also, check all the mounts for the 3 speed linkage, all the plastic bearing surfaces etc, if they are loose it will mean the shifter cannot do its job, and yes it is a little slower that a hi performance floor shifter, but it makes the driving experience more fun......Kieth

man i feel your pain. I have the same problem. I think mine is when i shift from first to second and dont fully get out of first then i get hung up. And like you have the pop the hood moved the rods back and hope im not on a hill. I have found some shift rod grouments from an earlier year catalog but haven't tried it yet. I got bigger problems. I think lmc had them for the 50's model

Had this happen to me. my problem was where the linkages hooked to the column it had rubber grommets that were worn out we took a rubber hose that was the same size as the holes and cut new ones that fixed my problem.
