Has anyone put a 65 cab/bed on a 76 chassis, if so can you tell me what body mounts you used and how you installed them. Thanks junkhandler59

Well, I looked at my 73 and it's way different but the frame is the same width, and the frame mounts on the 65 are just rivitted so I would think you could take those and and bolt them to the 76 frame. Now I don't know about the short bed, but the long bed has a 128" wheelbase but 73 up is 132", could be a bit of a hassle there!...

Got to looking at my donor 72 and it seems like everything is the same as the 66, so I may consider just putting my cab/bed on the 72 frame instead of swapping front ends, also I'll have a leaf rear instead of a coil rear end, this may save me a ton of work!..

Art- Do you prefer the leafs? I personally like the truck-arm, ladder-bar setup with coils. It is very easy to lower with blocks or "bag". While the ladder setup is much softer, it also feels much looser. While that 72 mighta been cheap, it's a more valuable vehicle than the one you are parting it for..... you sure you want to use it for parts?

Yeah I like the leafs, and it can be setup to have a soft ride and easy to lower if you're not going to haul any weight, which I won't be doing!.. Not too sure it's worth more than the 66 though, and I can get my money back+ selling all the parts!.

I have made that swap work a 1979 disc brake frame under a 1960 which is pretty much what you want to do. STOP now. Take the K member out from under your late model donor truck get all the Proportioning vavle stuff and power brake booster. It will bolt right to your old frame. If you want leafs you're going to learn how to weld. I have done this frame conversion and Dave the Web guy has seen it. The pickup truck frame from 1973 to 1987 has a hump under the seat which matches the frame hump. It has to be flat to get your 60-66 cab on it. I would suggest cutting the frame and Z dropping it at this point you need to make the rise in frame go away. The ideal frame to go under these older trucks is a shortened suburban frame 1973-1987. They have no frame rise in the center of the cab and are dirt cheap and easily cut to right wheelbase. the only thing I changed on the last one was I clipped the 73-87 frame and used the original front core support and bumper brackets up at the front. Cab mounts are easy to cut from 4"x4" square tubing saving the old ones is great but they will need to be extended about 1.5 inches outward on each side. I like the car like ride of Coil springs and the long Trailing arms of the 60-72. If you replace the coils with Bags you can adjust the load and ride height. Remember... Buckboards had leaf springs and stuff that rides sweet is usually on coils or air. Even New jeeps have coils, Big foot has coils. Off road buggys that go 110 on dirt have coils. "HELP SAVE THE COILS" . My latest project is a Ford Expedition Independant Rear Suspension under a 1968 c-10.

Big Dog is right however if you are lucky enough to find a 67-72 GMC shortbed donor you would be best off. The GMC has disk, PS,PB and leafs and it bolts right on. I'm in the middle of a 66 to 72 swap right now and its a bolt on deal.
