My mom is kinda concerned about the safety features of my truck. My dad put in cadillac waist seat belts a while ago, but do you think i can put in a shoulder strap seat belt (for my passengers their is no "OH $%#@" bar). I was also just curious, if i got in a wreck, would the '65 completely obliterate whatever i hit or is the metal the body is made of really not as tough as i think?

For my '65, I searched salvage yards and EBay, and found a pair of seats from a 2002 GMC pickup with the seatbelts built-in for $200. I just had to drill some new holes in the floor to mount them and all is OK. The original sheet metal on the '65 is much stouter than current vehicles.

My stepsons first set of wheels was a 79 C-10 truck. He was not paying attention and he turned in front of some one and they hit him in the passengers door almost rolling him over. Luckily no one was hurt and the car that hit him was totaled. Them old trucks are good vehicles to learn how to drive. Get some good seat belts in there and drive save.

Not to freak you out but there are a ton of hazzards in older trucks. I will name a few and some things to think about. -All Steel dash without a collapseable steering wheel -All Steel cab with no back headrest -No Airbags -No Steel reinforced doors -No impact beds plus a gas tank in the cab I would suggest if you are going to drive this thing everyday put in a sholder belt as well as at least a pad behind your head, think whiplash. These things are all great American steel but there are zero safety features. Dont get me wrong i drive mine everyday and i am risking it daily. Talk to your local fire dept and see why they all drive big chevy of ford truck it sure aint for the looks these are the guys going on call all day and cutting people out of cars. HAve fun and be safe!

My truck was wrecked when I bought it. It T-boned a small car with the front passenger corner at about 60 mph. It ruined the fender, and baiscally the front clip of sheet metal, structurally it was ok, it bent the lower A frame a bit, but nothing to bad just where I couldnt get it aligned right.
The car was totalled by the way, the prev. owner showed me pics of it, it was scattered all over the highway, he drove the truck home. If you hit something with it, its either going to go through it, or tear it up something horrible. Some sorts of racing type shoulder harnesses wouldnt be bad, you can hide them behind the seats or something.
