I have a 66 short wheelbase step side with a 292 6 cyl. and grandma 4-spd. So far have removed all rust and painted a bright Yellow, relocated the gas tank (Home built), and put a tonneau cover over the bed. The truck was originally a long wb fleet side, we found a swb frame and used that along with a bed and fenders from a 78 Chev. Now rebuilding a saginaw (car) 4 speed which will be more fun. I want to convert to disc brakes in front with 2 1/2" drop spindles. Will see how she sits after that I want a rake like we had in the 60's, so haven't touched the stock height rears yet. I am looking for a split exhaust sound with out loosing the carb heat feature of the stock manifolds. Sound reminiscent of the 235's we grew up with so many years ago. T.

First off welcome Taclem. Did the 78 frame come with a suspension? The 78 has a lot more after market support.
The spit manifold I have dealt with should not interfere. They cut a hole in the bottom add a plate inside to split the manifold (either 3-3 or 4-2) and weld a flange on. The manifold is not cut in half, all the heat in the manifold is still there, be it redirected.
hope this helps. del
