Does anybody know a good sand/media blaster? I'm debating whether or not I want to send some of my parts to a sand blaster. Also, can you give me a rough idea what it would cost to blast a frame? It's proving to be much more of a pain in my backside than I had originally anticipated to get my wire bush into some of the more complicated areas.

Do not sandblast the cab or any sheetmetal, it's way too agressive and will warp the metal, I talked to the "Stripping Shop" in Peoria and they told me $450 to do the cab and all the sheetmatal with media, didn't ask about sand blasting though figured I'd just find someone local to do the frame!.. www.strippingshop.com/public.php?name=home

Dave you can buy a blaster from harbor freight for 100.00 and some sand from home depot or lowes. It will take about 6 bags (50lbs) 5.00 each if you reuse and screen the sand..

I think that's what I'm going to do. A friend of mine has one of those blasters. I was under the impression that you could NOT sand blast body parts. (For those of you who may not already know this...) I've since learned that it only damages (warps) the metal if you leave it in one place too long. It's the heat, not the sand, that causes it to warp. As long as you're patient, you can sand blast to your heart's content. Sand blasting, if done right, can actually help even out the stress on body panels left by welding and body work.

Something you have to be aware with when sandblasting sheet metal is that it has a tendency to pit the metal and everywhere you touch it afterwards it will rust over night. A good way to get rid of the pits is to paint it with Z Chrome, its like bondo, but sprayable, and after you sand it you can apply bondo right to it, you dont have to take it down to bare metal. Its good stuff but, expensive and makes a terrible mess when you sand alot of it.
